How it works

Five steps, the day you sign up.

Not a project. You sign up with an email, say what kind of business it is, and the system sets the menu, the words your team uses and the first work. Change any of it in the next step, or later under Settings.

Setting up · step 1Sample company
The first step of setting up: What kind of business is it? Pick the closest; it sets the menu, the words your team uses and the first work. A way to try a sample company first, a short set of questions for those not sure, a side-by-side comparison, and the first kind, wholesale and distribution, with what it brings.

The five steps, in order.

Each one can be left and come back to. Nothing is written into your company until you say so.

  1. 1

    Your kind of business

Wholesale and distribution, inventory and warehouse, online orders, light manufacturing, service work, or build your own. Not sure? Three questions point to the closest, and the kinds compare side by side.

    • Sets the menu and the first work
    • Every part can be changed next
    • Try the sample company first
  2. 2

    Your tools and words

Turn each tool on or off, and say what your team calls things: customers or clients, products or parts, deliveries or dispatches. The screens use your words from then on.

    • Tools on and off
    • Your words for things
    • Changed later under Settings
  3. 3

    Your company

Name, address, VAT number, the currency and the time zone, your document numbering, your payment terms and the logo on your invoices.

    • What appears on every document
    • Numbering you choose
    • Terms and tax codes
  4. 4

    Your people

Invite them by email as owner, sales, warehouse or accounts. Each sees what their role needs, and Today opens on their own queue.

    • Invited by email
    • A role each
    • Access taken back the same way
  5. 5

    Your spreadsheets

Customers, suppliers, items and opening stock from the files you already keep. Each is checked and shown before anything is written, and the first count sets the books.

    • Checked before it is written
    • Opening stock at cost
    • Growth: one import done with you

The sample company

Learn on someone else’s books before you keep your own.

Hartley Fasteners is a fasteners wholesaler eight weeks into trading: quotes waiting, an order half shipped, invoices overdue, three items low and a work order done. It is apart from your company, and nothing of it is ever put in yours.
