Item BOLT-M10-60Sample company
An item in the sample company, a hex bolt: 800 on hand with 500 promised and never counted, 300 free with a reorder point of 400 so it reads low, 1,500 on order, its value at cost first in first out, its unit cost and its sales price, and tabs for its movements, stock ahead, what it is made of, work orders, sales and purchase orders and adjustments.

One item

Four numbers that always agree.

On hand is what the shelf holds. Promised is what confirmed orders will take. Free is the difference. On order is what suppliers still owe you. Every document that moves stock moves them.

  1. ON HAND

    On the shelf

What receipts, work orders and counts have put there, less what shipments and adjustments have taken.

At cost, first in first out

  2. PROMISED

    Held for orders

What confirmed sales orders will take when they ship. Promised stock cannot be sold twice.

  3. FREE

    Free to sell

On hand less promised. Below the reorder point it reads low, on the item and on Today.

  4. ON ORDER

    On its way

What issued purchase orders have not yet delivered, and when it is due.

  5. AHEAD

    By date Growth

What each item will have on each coming day, counting the orders in and out, and the purchase orders that keep it above the line.

Every way stock moves, on a numbered document.

Receipts, shipments, counts, adjustments and work orders each leave a movement with who made it and when, so the shelf can always be explained.

  • Items

    Items with everything on them

SKU, name, unit, barcode, reorder point, target stock, bin, tax code, sales price and cost, and every document the item has been on.

  • Counts

    Stock counts

Count a bin or the whole shop; what differs from the books is adjusted on a numbered document, with the value of the difference posted.

  • Adjustments

    Adjustments with a reason

Breakages, write-offs and corrections, each with a reason and its value, so the books and the shelf stay the same.

  • Bins

    Bins

Where an item lives in the one location, printed on labels and read with a barcode, so the picker finds it.

  • Movements

    Movements, in order

Every change to an item, from the first receipt to the last shipment, with the document that made it, in one list.

  • Valuation

    Valued at what it cost

Stock is held first in, first out at the price on the purchase order, so the stock valuation and the margin on each sale are real.

  • Work orders

Work orders from a bill of materials

Say what a product is made of; a work order takes the components off the shelf and puts the product on it, at the components’ cost.

  • Labels

    Labels and barcodes

Print labels for items and bins, and read barcodes to find and count them.

  • Reports

    Availability and valuation

The stock availability and the stock valuation reports, as of today or any day, downloaded as a file.

Light assembly

Made from what it is made of.

A bill of materials says what a product takes. The work order takes those components off the shelf, puts the product on it, and costs it at what the components cost.
